The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) poll showed that Donald Trump leads the 2024 GOP presidential primary voters. However, WSJ’s editorial board hopes for a different candidate to emerge but needs help finding an alternative that excites them.

The WSJ has been critical of Trump’s populism and bombast but hasn’t wholly opposed him. They’ve sought a candidate who aligns with their values but has few options. Chris Christie is one contender who opposes Trump but faces challenges securing the nomination.

WSJ prefers a “hawkish, anti-populist, and viable” candidate, but finding one remains challenging.
